2019 Excellence in Design Seminar & Tour
Thursday, September 12, 2019, 5-7pm
Heritage Conservancy's Aldie Mansion
85 Old Dublin Pike, Doylestown, PA 18901

The Chamber's Architectural & Environmental Committee has assembled a quartet of experts from several related fields for this year’s Environmental Seminar, and we’d like you to join us. Participate in a wide-ranging conversation about the history, importance and future of Doylestown's beaten paths off the main thoroughfares of our fair town. You'll come away richer in understanding about what these alleys, cut-throughs and tertiary streets mean to our built environment and why we need to protect them.

Heritage Conservancy hosts this free event at Aldie Mansion. A reception and meet-and-greet kicks off the evening at 5pm with wine, beer, soft beverages and appetizers. A&E Committee co-chair Kelley Noftsger opens with remarks and introductions at 5:30, then co-chair Scott Little moderates the lively conversation between the panelists and audience members. Bring your questions and stories to share and anticipate a fun, interactive evening with a topic that's sure to inspire interest in our built environment and local history.

While the seminar is free and open to all, please take a moment to register at http://www.centralbuckschamber.com/calendar.cfm or 215-348-3913 to make it easier for us to plan.

Commemorative Tile: The 2019 Annual Excellence in Design Tour limited-edition handmade terracotta glazed tile will be on sale at the seminar.

Tradesmen's Trails: The Alleys & Back Streets of Doylestown
Sunday, September 15, 2019, 1-4pm
Post-Tour Gathering: Chambers 19 Bistro & Bar, 4pm

Design Tour

The Chamber’s Architectural & Environmental Committee hosts its Annual Excellence in Design Tour from 1 to 4pm on Sunday, September 15, 2019. Tradesmen’s Trails: The Alleys & Back Streets of Doylestown is a docent-guided walking tour that explores behind the homes and businesses to those little-seen or oft-ignored areas of our town that were, in years past, the purview of primarily tradesmen and domestic employees. How have our back streets and byways become something more and, in the process, changed our townscape? Tour-goers can expect to see delightful examples of the built environment from different time periods, hear stories of what used to be there - and perhaps share their own, and discover hidden gems unique to our town and its history. One of these gems, the Bucks County Civil War Museum at Broad and Garden Alley, is opening its doors so we can view its collection.

The tour begins at the Bucks County Parking Garage entrance on Union Street near North Broad; parking is free. Plan to arrive by 1pm, since docents will gather their tour groups to depart at intervals soon after that; only those with a docent may enter any properties for which we have the owners’ permission. While most of the tour route crosses fairly level ground, there are some stairs, short hills and rough roadway that could be a problem for those with mobility issues.

Ticketholders are invited to join homeowners and committee members at Chambers 19 Bistro & Bar on Main Street near State immediately following the tour. Purchase your own beverages and enjoy a tasty complimentary spread provided by Chambers.

Tickets: $15 each in advance, $20 the day of the tour at the parking garage. For more information and where to buy tickets, please contact the Chamber at 215-348-3913.
