Founded by Dr. Selma Burke
Produced In Memory of Walter P. Lomax, Jr., MD
Hosted By:
The Bridges at Warwick
1600 Almshouse Road
Jamison, PA 18929
The Bucks County Sculpture Show was founded in 1977 by renowned sculptor, illustrator, painter, and New Hope resident, Dr. Selma Burke; (1900 - 1995). Today, the Central Bucks Chamber of Commerce is pleased to continue the legacy of this great artist through the annual Bucks County Sculpture Show, a part of the Chamber's Bucks Fever Celebration of the Arts program.
Primarily a sculptor, Burke crafted figures of rugged beauty from wood, bronze, or stone, hewn in a style of almost classical realism. She sculpted several celebrities, including Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Nobel and Pulitzer-prize winning author Pearl S. Buck. A committed educator, the bearer of two earned and eight honorary doctorates, Burke established two art schools while teaching at Haverford and Swarthmore Colleges. She also taught at the Solebury School, and several other institutions.
The Bucks County Sculpture Show advances Burke’s unparalleled contributions to the art world by celebrating the works of renowned and emerging sculptors. Generously sponsored by the Lomax family (The Lomax Companies) of Chalfont, the show is one of only a few such exhibitions in the region devoted exclusively to three dimensional art. The Sculpture Show Committee is developed by theĀ Bucks County Sculpture Committee and is chaired by John Bray (Atlantic Aquatic Engineering, Inc.).
